I can't figure out why so many different bass amps have 12" speakers, but only one 12" replacement speaker is available, (Eminence Baselite S2012).

I've already given up and bought a 10" Eminence speaker, because the 12" Basslite is too pricey.
As it's for my old 1980 vintage Peavey TNT 80, just 45 watts.

But again, it's amazing to see that all the top amp manufacturers sell bass amps with 12" speakers, but you'll have to go 10" if you blow the speaker.

Plenty of other great options, just not as cheap as you like. I replaced a blown 12 with an Eminence 3012HO and its an incredible speaker in small boxes with great Xmax.

Most of the good neo "bass speakers" are listed under the PA/SR categories. Kapalites, Deltalites, Faital 12PR series, etc. Some of them make as good or better "bass speakers" as ones listed under "bass speakers".

The Carvin PS12 is a good speaker for the price - I have been using them for years with good results.

For example, many large companies 12" neos are variants of, or at least built on, the Eminence DeltaliteII platform, which you will find in the sound renforcement section, rather than the bass speaker section.

Wow! Nice price, but will an audio woofer really work in a bass amp?
Seems like instrument amps really move those cones big time, I mean they need to vibrate in and out a much larger distance than an audio cone.
Well, the next guy can do a search, and find this thread for a good 12" replacement speaker.
    Thanks.

MCM is a huge site and has many speakers that suit instrument and sound reinforcement stuff as well as home/car audio.

It helps to know a thing or 2 about specs but a couple of key things to look for is an SPL rating higher than the very low 90's in combination with a cloth surround rather than rubber/foam rubber, etc. That'll at least help eliminate stuff that just plain won't work.

Also look for stuff carrying the "mcm" house brand rather than Pyle, etc. They come with a real datasheet, complete with T/S specs and a 1w/1m response chart.

PartsExpress "Dayton" house brand has some good values as well.

    Sure it's not actually a TKO 80?

What did Peavey tech support tell you when you asked about a replacement? They are usually great about this stuff. There's a huge list of what driver-went-where on their website too.

Peavey USA has a good selection 10" and 15" bass speakers listed for sale, but no 12"s.
I did not email tech support.

Live and learn then, eh? ;)

Reconing might've been a cost effective option too.

I don't think I'd buy a speaker that was not a designed just for bass guitar. A good audio PA woofer…I have doubts about that.

    I found a new Eminence for Fender 10" bass speaker for $40 + $7 S&H.

Probably I should have tracked down all the other name brand amp manufacturers first, and checked them for a replacement 12.

Eminence builds their stuff here in the US, I like that.
Japan, Korea, Mexico, Canada and Europe would all be better for me than China, just from a political and trade relations view.

I guess all the great advice above was for naught, then. :scowl:

Ya, typical case of not knowing about the subject, wanting to hear a pre-conceived supportive answer to his question, then getting totally dissatisfied when the answers weren't what he expected. Oh well, can't save the world. I'm really interested to hear how he makes out with a 10" mounting it in a hole designed for a 12" ;)

This. OP, you need to learn to search for more than 45 seconds before you give up.
