I got this one about a week ago and finally got around to firing it up today and it's frickin' awesome. it's a mid 70's Ampeg V4. I was always partial (and somewhat 'snobbish' ;)) about preferring the earlier aluminum knobbed non-master volume version but I gotta say, this one is as good or better than any of the 5 V4's and V4B's that I've owned. this one is an unmolested 'virgin', in very good condition, and is 100% complete. It even has all of it's original tubes and works and sounds perfect, other than needing its pots and rocker switches cleaned with de-oxit, and even then, they weren't very noisy.

    here's a pic of it:

    Congrats John
Very envious. We don't see many v4's over here, darn it. I'd import one, but really need to try one ob for size- mainly in the headroom dept.

You're likely going to start seeing them way more often pretty soon ;) although I can't tell you how much you'll have to pay Down Under.

    Good score, John!

well, it does have a lot more oompf (output and headroom) than you'd think for 100 watt amp, and its tone is glorious!

I have a '73 V-4B (square black graphics) and I have often wondered what it would sound like driving a cab that has a pair of JBL K140's.

    Nice one.

One of my guitard buddies just scored a minty one. I may have to steal it from him!

the cool thing is, I traded some bass guitar work for it from it's original owner, who is a great guy.

I got it with the intention of selling it to get paid for the work, but after playing thru it, I really don't want to let go of it, (unless I got a ridiculous offer for it ;)).

Another one for the collection? How soon until your episode or hoarders starts filming? Hopefully they'll be able to find you under that pile of amps ;)

Wow - super clean! Even the graphics are intact. Congrats johnk!
I had a mid 70s V4B - with the squate black graphics. I ran it with an SVT810. Best tone I've ever gotten from an amp setup. Gigged it for 10 years of club work with not one single fail.

I know how you're really snagging these pristine amps. How much to rent that time machine you're hiding in your basement? ;) ;) ;)

Cool! I had two just like it but non-master V-4Bs. I have to say it was the nicest sounding amp tone I have heard. Better than the old SVT IMO. I liked the stock 7027s more than 6550s.

I LOVE these amps (and this one is the bomb!). I just have two others that I've owned a lot longer and have become somewhat attached to.
