Does anyone else think P basses are a bit boring looking?
I love the sound but I have to say the body shape is a bit over rated in my opinion.

Viewing this site on my phone, I thought the exact same thing as your post. I scroll down, see your response, and smile.

Rolf, you're a young guy. You've made an interesting bass.

I'm just putting that there to try and defuse this thread before it even starts...

When I was young I found the P bass the most boring thing on the planet. 30 plus years on I'm still a Thunderbird guy but I have like 5 Precisions in the arsenal. Don't underestimate the Precision Bass.

I hate the way they look when I own one, and as soon as I get a different bass I start GASSING over P's especially the looks. Does that make sense?

Some threads are started out of ignorance, others out of stupidity others still to be provocative. This one is just a bit boring looking, IMO.

I would say that next to Gibson basses, I think Fender Ps are the best looking out there. But I am extremely against boutique and coffee table looking basses, or anything exotic looking in general. The P bass sounds great and has the classic look.

    Umm... THIS!!!

  17. I think all of the designs from fender and gibson from the 50s and 60s are totally timeless. If they were made yesterday it would seem normal.

You could just Bedazzle the P-Bass. Then it would not bore you so.

This is what I tell my students when they say that something is "boring":

The only thing in the world that is boring is a person who is bored. Everything else is subjective.

  20. Boring? Definitely not. P basses are dead sexy to me. Perfect. Are they fancy? Have woods I can't pronounce? Gold hardware? 500 dollar electronics? Nope. Thats just the way I like it too.

    Simplicity is elegance.

Over rated body shape? Millions of P bass owners over the past 50 years would beg to differ.

Does anyone else think the Ampeg B-15, (or for that matter the Hammond B3/Leslie 122) are over rated?

(Only asking, because I own both, and find them to be unmatched by anything made today).
