Still looking for my new bass, came along this one being offered locally at an excelent price ($900.00), if it is really what the seller says...

It's being advertised as a 2001 Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass V. It's not in bad shape, 2 pot knobs and a battery screw missing. No blemishes on the finish, electronics ok. Posting pics that the seller has posted so you can help me to identify if it's legit.

    Thanks in advance!

Based on the looks, tuners, and serial number, it seems like a 2000 American Deluxe.

Thanks Nedmundo, I was intrigued because it doesn't have a "D" in front of the "Z" in the serial number. Do you know the actual value of this bass?

OK, thanks. I'm going to offer $800.00 then. So no need to have the D before the Z on the serial to be a deluxe?

I never saw one without the D, and an '01 should have pups that say 'Noiseless' on them I thought ... but USA serial #, 22 fret neck and active, Deluxe machines, etc ... so if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, etc ... color would be White Blonde if it is an '01, I would think late in 2000 or VERY early in '01 ... I dont think there were changes on these again until '03 ... can you get the full serial # on it?

Edit to add: .. there were a few different models of that style case, from what I can see of it, the case in the pic appears to be correct for a 2000/2001 ... it is a better case than what began being issued a couple years later ...

Serial# should be Z0041489 for what I can tell, just emailed seller asking for better headstock and pups photos

I would press for $800 or $750. Missing knobs are a red flag to me. They make me think the owner may not have taken good care of the bass.

Seller says it's been on the case for about 2 years. Knobs were lost during flight from the USA to Peru. I'm going to see it and test it first, but I've asked for better pictures to pull the trigger. He's selling it in a Web like Craigslist and has good reputation...

You see, the knobs put the total parcel weight above the maximum for a single piece of baggage, so he had to check them separately.

That's exactly what I was thinking... But missing knobs and screws looks suspicious to me, I just want to be sure, so I will met with him and take a good look and test at the bass.

... that serial # appears to be correct as given .. should be American Deluxe Jazz V, entered into the system in June of 2000, White Blonde/Rosewood ... some of the early basses in this run (2000-2003) did not have the D preceding the serial #, and also may not have 'Noiseless' written on the pup covers, but these are 'stack coil' (noiseless) pups ... ;)

Thanks man, that was my main worry about the bass... Now just waiting for the seller to set a date to test and take a look at it... And what about the value, should $800.00 - $900.00 range be ok?
