Hi gang! I am learning some Pete Seeger songs, but all the recordings I'm finding are him solo. Anyone have experience playing along to these songs? I'm thinking the basic roots & 5ths will get me through, but if there are any special nuances anyone here is aware of, I'd appreciate you sharing your knowledge or experience. Thanks, J

(btw, playing a 1940 Kay M-1 with a David Gage Realist pickup in case anyone's interested)

Pete Seeger is where I first heard bluegrass songs like 'Dark Hollow' and 'Worried Man Blues'. A bluegrass approach is perfect for his material.

In Pete's banjo book he writes about playing counterlines to the melody, which he does often on the banjo. Root 5 woorks fine but if you want to get fancy, you could steal some of those counterlines from Ol' Pete.

  9. What is the book? Better yet, what is a counter line?
