Replacing Barts in my SD500

I have an Ibanez SD500 that I enjoy playing; it's so nice and light, and acoustically it has a very nice, clear full low end. Problem is, when I plug it in, it just doesn't measure up to the single-H Music Man Sting Ray I am also playing. I also played a borrowed P-bass for a bit, and that also beats the crap out of the ol' SD500. Neither one of the other basses sound any better unplugged, but better amped.

I have to conclude that, all things being UN-equal, it has to be a lot the fault of the pickups. They sound OK, but next to the P and the Ray, there's no contest. Any suggestions of replacements for the stock MK1 Barts?

I would even be up for passives, don't care just want it to sound better.
