Rex Brown's growl.

    I hear that Rex Brown has a pedal that really brings out that marked, prominent, metallic growl.

    This pedal is called Spector NS-2 bass :) It growls by its nature.

    I suspected my coworker was full of it. A good bass growl results in clean resolution of the inherent metallic quality of round wounds. A pedal would most likely impart distortion IMO.

    If you listen to his soloed tracks it is definitely a scooped distorted tone. I heard he used a HBE Hematoma. Either the bass or the amp must have had a nice scoop in it.

    I get the sound with a TS type pedal into a BDDI.

    Love his tone especially in this song . Need to try a NS-2 someday...
