    Hi Guys,

I've just uploaded my first bass cover video of Rio Funk by Lee Ritenour, featuring that amazing bass line by Marcus Miller.

The link is below if you would like to check it out:

Looking for feedback regarding video, sound and playing as it's the first time I've done this, and video editing is new to me too.

Plus thought you might just enjoy it... :)

    For interest:

    GoPro Hero2 (1920 x 1080)
    Flip UltraHD (1280 x 720)
Editing in Corel VideoStudio Pro x6

    --Audio
2010 Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe (American)
Akai EIE Pro USB audio interface
Behringer Composer PRO-XL MDX2600 dynamics processor
Into Cubase, small EQ - boost of bass and treble regions

If you guys know of anywhere I should post this please let me know, I tried to access the talkbass group on YouTube that is in the sticky thread but it gives a 404 error.

    Thanks!

    Shane

Good song, good cover, good tone, and the 2 shot/split cam on video is a good idea for allowing others to better see what you are doing.

Thanks mate, yeah I thought it was too - I was going to just overlay the 2nd video track and be done with it, but got a bit excited with the video editing part and spent some time making it a bit more dynamic.

I think it makes a difference compared to a lot of the other vids out there.

Thank you, appreciate the kind words :)

This was one of my two "go two" bass lines to teach students back in the early '90s when I was teaching; This an "Big Time" by Miles Davis really showed off the Marcus style and were both very learnable.

For sure man, Rio Funk is awesome and quite accessible to those reasonably proficient at slap...or at least those that have that internal "groove" down pat...that other tune is nice too, not too busy, very Marcus!

Great job on a great song! Thanks for including all of the recording information; I've filed that away for future use. Keep'em coming.

Excellent job! If I had anything to add it would be to make that Latin section sound more authentic. Needs more of a latin feel. You got the funk part down pretty good.

Great playing and smokin' hot tone out of that jazz bass.

Not a problem, certainly not an advanced setup but seems to work. I'd like to work on getting my head properly around the dynamics processor and using it to it's max ability....mainly using just so I don't clip the input on my audio interface, but I'm sure a bit more knowledge and tweaking would get a better result...

    Thanks mate :)

Thanks! Very good point actually, I felt the first break was a bit sloppy, the second one was better but I am introducing mutes and things which the original bassline doesn't have, maybe to compensate and help me get my head around the 'latin' style...could always be better, appreciate the feedback! Maybe I just need to play that section 'looser'..less is more...

Thanks buddy....the bass has an awesome tone, just gotta hit the thing right! I'd like to try an authentic old school jazz bass one day...
