I posted about this on a sister bass forum, and am taking a lot of smack for it.

I did not know Ricky personally, but the first 4 Yellowjackets albums really blew my mind, and I have been a fan ever since. I have the utmost respect and admiration for him, and have followed his career, post Yellowjackets, like a younger brother, watching his sibling on the road.

Loved his work with Steely Dan, Phil Collins, and many more. Saw him at Humphreys in San Diego once!

His loss hits me almost like losing a family member, and he's one more great musician I have to cross off my bucket list!

RIP Ricky! The world just got a little less groovy!

I had not heard either... I was just playing some of the "Matinee Idol" bass riff (Yellowjackets) last night.

for informing people on Ricky Lawsons' passing???

is there any online info confirming it?
I did a quick google and found nothing.
All I did find is that he suffered a stroke a couple days ago.

Heartbreaking! I just found Kevin Whalum's posting on Facebook. Apparently, a brain aneurysm.

Well, since the only thing you can find from actual news outlets is that he was hospitalized two days ago with a stroke AND since there was a recent hubub surrounding the INCORRECT AND WRONG postings about the death of Horace Silver (who, according to his son Gregory, "is sitting across from me having coffee and cereal...")
maybe waiting isn't the worst thing in the world.

That was the hardest thing for me, when Elvin was getting close to the end; cats jumping the gun because they heard from somebody who heard from somebody who heard from somebody...

No online confirmation yet, but everyone, from Sekou Bunch to Gerald Albright has mentioned it on their Facebook pages. I keep wanting it to be false, like Horace Silver the other day, but so far, seems to be true!

Dwight Sills is now saying it may not be true....hold the phone!

yes....that is too bad. I had met him several times (he endorsed our drum hardware; Gibraltar).

We was a super nice guy.

I really loved the album Mirage a Trois in the day.

There is an article in the Detroit Free Press online. I will post a link when I get to a computer.

Per a Facebook posting by Darryl Anders at 1:20pm (pacific time) today, Ricky was still alive, but on life support.

You'd be surprised (or maybe not) at the amount dimwads over there! They call it a bass forum but very little 'bass' speak is going on!
