I'm going up to San Francisco in February for an audition for SFSU. I need to rent a bass while I'm there. What shops are there in San Francisco that any of you would recommend from your personal experience? I've contacted Alex at Acoustic Bass Shop and I like the selection he has, but I want to broaden my options.

I'd check with Steve Swan in Burlingame. He's a good guy and has a fine selection of basses at his shop. Never rented from him, but went up to his shop a few times when I was in Palo Alto.

He already got a hold of me. I checked his site and like his selections and I was definitely impressed by his 19th and early 20th century basses.
