I got to meet all of these guys. Rock, his brother Ron, Mike Davis, Fred 'Sonic' Smith (MC5).

They were the foundation of the Motor City becoming a place known for a hellish good time. Both bands; The Stooges & the MC5 had their own sound and style. There was nothing like them before but many, many copycats.

If you are unfamiliar with there music, give a listen. You'll hear things in their songs and onstage antics that they originated and played with abandon...setting the stage for acts that only received better publicity for doing the same thing years later.

Try: Stooges: Funhouse, MC5: Kick Out The Jams.

While the fidelity of Kick Out The Jams is fairly poor, the rock attitude, energy and playing were copied by punk and metal acts alike. Upon hearing Funhouse, well the acts that copied them look fairly limp in comparison.

Man, I have some stories too...
