Seth Kimmel bass

Discussion in 'Basses [DB]' started by Russell Bergum, Oct 1, 2011.

  1. Here are some pics of my Seth Kimmel 3rd Avenue model bass, with a low C extension that Seth made. Bass was made in Feb, 2011. I've had it for about 3 weeks now, and I LOVE it. Great, deep, warm even tone. Super ergonomics and playability. Is fairly deep in the ribs (9 1/2" at the lower bout, tapering to 6 3/4 at the button), and really rumbles with the low notes.

The extension is very nice, and scroll does not need to be drilled, and the C string goes around the E peg.

Back and sides are western big leaf maple, top is Sitka spruce, and scroll is European maple.

  4. Thanks. It actually sounds and plays better than it looks. It plays way better than I do.

Fantastic! I just checked out Seth Kimmel's webpage, and there's no shortage of beautiful instruments coming out of his workshop.

Is it too crass to ask for a hint about the cost?

Beautiful bass! Looks like a joy to play. Congratulations!

It's amazing to look at an instrument and think of the possibilities. It's more amazing to turn those possibilities into realities. Good luck to ya on it!
  11. No problem. $18000 including the C-extension, padded bag, really nice carbon endpin, Belcanto strings, and shipped from Eugene, OR to my home in northern MN.

Beautiful. He sure does nice work. Enjoy!

  14. Thanks. Seth does wonderful work, and is a really great guy. I highly recommend him!
  15. Well, I believe there are now 3 Kimmel basses in Minnesota. I'm the new owner of the "Gamba" #16 and Dave Williamson has "Third Ave" #9. We should all get together sometime and see whose is best....

Kimmel is a first rate maker, and his basses aren't 35k...yet. :D

WOW! That looks like a really nice bass. Congrats.
  17. Congrats! I played the Gamba out in Eugene, OR the day after Matt Frischmann bought it. Very nice! I think Matt is having Seth make a copy of his symphony bass for him now.

Playing Dave's "Third Ave" is what turned me on to Seth.

I played that bass at the ISB, good choice. Really hard to beat at that price point. Seth is an artisté!
