Got a new Gibson EB from Sam Ash yesterday. Noticed after putting it back in it's case, that the underside of the case has a pretty significant dent/hole in it, about a quarter inchi diameter. Checked the packing box and it looks like it was hit by the sharp corner of something.

What do I do, and what should I expect?

    Call Sam Ash?

    Call Gibson?

    Call Fed Ex?

    Replace the case?

    Get my purchase discounted?

Also, I'm not 100% sure I'm keeping this bass. I may return it altogether. If so, what's the best way to ensure they don't blame me for this dent upon it's return? Feel I have to make somebody aware of what's going on, but don't want anyone jumping through any hoops just to have me decide to return it next week.

This is a first for me. Help is appreciated.

Call them immediately , if you decide to keep the bass maybe they could arrange a case swap at thier NYC store.

Since the bass arrived safely, try to get them to ship out an empty case.

Yeah, I received a new bass with a damaged case one time. The bass was not damaged - just the case. I called, and they sent me a new case without any hassle at all. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was Musicians Friend.

But of course if you don't like the bass itself, then that's not an option. You'll just have to return it.

    Ya, call SA right away.

Save the box and all the packing junk in case a damage claim needs to be filed with the carrier. CYA

DeanT Send lawyers, guns and money...

Contact Sam Ash and have them replace the case. Then contact FedEx and put in a damage claim. But good luck trying to collect.

The shippers do everything they can to not pay for their damage. Their favorite tactic is to say the box was substandard so it's not their fault.

If the bass is intact, then at least get a new case from Sam Ash.
  13. I'm going to be the contrarian here and humbly suggest you call Sam Ash immediately.

Contact Sam Ash immediately, dont try to deal with fedex by your own, in my own experience, they will do everything to avoid to compensate you for any damage caused to your bass.

That's the most important thing. In any situation where shipping damage is claimed, the carrier will need to see the box.

I had this issue with MF, they sent me a new case as the feet got pushed through the plastic of the one my bass shipped with and I sold the damaged one cheap to a local player.

Thanks for the input everyone. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to call till tomorrow afternoon, the earliest. Any reason for the "immediately" you're all scaring me with? :)
  20. sounds like the case did it's job.

The closer in time to the delivery, the more believable it is that YOU didn't cause the damage. At least shoot them an email.
