1. Welcome to TalkBass 2014! If you're new here, we just went through a major site upgrade. Please post all concerns and bugs to the Forum Usage Issues forum. We will be monitoring that forum. Thank you for all of your feedback.

The TalkBass iphone/android app is NOT WORKING currently. We're working on it. Tapatalk IS working, so if you need to use an app, use Tapatalk. Try using your browser though - TalkBass is now 100% responsive to your phone/tablet screen size ;)

Please read the TalkBass 2014 FAQ for lots of great info on the new software.

Should I buy it?

There is an SVT 3 Pro on Craigslist selling at $100. I checked Musicians Friend, and these are going for 1,099.99 new. The one on Craigslist, however, claims the pre amp does not work, but will work with a pedal. Is it worth it? What price range would i face if i decide to purchase it and get it repaired?

I'm not an expert or repair person. But I suspect that if they are selling it or only $100 they probably got an estimate that was cost prohibitive to fix. $100 is not a huge investment if you're willing to gamble. If you know the power section is good, then there are plenty of rack mount pre amps you could use with it.

There isn't much to the preamp section, could be something simple like a tube. I'd buy.

Alright, i've decided i'll buy it and see what happens. Would it be possible to hook up my PF-500 to it or would there be any reason to do so? haha. I don't really know much on amps.

Broken amp plus "I don't know much about amps".

This is going to be either a really short or a really interesting thread. :)

Yep, sounds like a waste of $100.

Sorry if I sound stupid here... but isn't the PF-500 an amp?

Maybe I said "buy it" a little too quickly! :bag:

Anyway, this is going to be a good learning curve for you, you will either learn about amps, or at least learn not to buy broken ones!

If it was $20, yep. If you can test it thoroughly and diagnose it... maybe it's worth $100. Depends on parts + repair cost.

So, I've taken it to get repair done on it... and it turns out, the repairs will only come out to be $82. So I suppose $182 for a $1,100 isn't bad, now is it?

Well used they go usually for $400 to $500 so for less than $200 you still did pretty darn well! :)
