i left the chain for the snare drum on when i left the jam space this morning.

Will that hurt or damage the drum at all?

No it won't damage anything. Drummers leave them on all the time.

Correction:Bad drummers leave them on all the time.

This has driven me nuts for over 40 years... drummers who leave their snare on during breaks, or worse yet, while other bands are going to play on the same stage. It tells me that the drummer is totally unaware of what he/she does and has no ears. It's Mickey Mouse.

Yes, it could hurt the acoustics of the room on a snare that's left on and not being played in a low volume situation. It doesn't hurt the drum any, though. Possibly just the enjoyment of your music, as So Low Bass pointed out.

I mean, it could explode.....but probably not. Yes, most likely not.

:) I agree that it's annoying when left on, and thankfully both of the drummers that I've been fortunate enough to play with flip them off for the exact reasons you mention.
