Lets make a list of songs that would be vastly improved on record if that fabulous bass part was louder in the mix.

My vote goes to a Yes song...Siberian Khatru!

You can hear Chris Squire's brilliant composition played here by 'pwrtch'.

A lot of Aerosmith songs would be much better if the bass were louder.

Read an interview with Prince, there is NO bass on that track. His process at the time was to pile everything on, and then decide what he needed at mix down. He felt that track came alive when paired down to its bare bones.

It is a masterpiece, but would be better if the bass were louder...

I believe one of Metallica's bassists left the band for this very reason.

...and while they're at it, turn that damn minimoog bass down, I beg of you!!! It's just drowning out all of Jeff Berlin's badassity!

Yes, it was Jason Newsted. In fact, it seemed to be just one of the many reasons why he left. :D

Its a good song, but the body of the music comes from the guitar with the bass following along as a kind of filler for the low end.

Another good one in their catalog is Call of Cthulhu...which could have been recorded entirely with the bass playing the main riffs, while the guitars add sonic seasoning.
