This is a GREAT Electra bass from the renowned Matsumoku plant and one in wonderful shape despite being at least 40 years old. Original P pickup gives true vintage sound (particularly in passive mode). Aftermarket quarter-pounder J PU provides the bark and slap power. Together they produce a wealth of usable sounds. Versatile onboard pre-amp with a soulful sound. Highly figured maple neck. Professionally refinished in Carolina blue. New flatwounds.

Altogether an ultra cool oldie in excellent+ shape that will kick the sonic excrement out of newer basses costing twice as much.
Just not getting any use with me because I have too many basses and at under 9 lbs, this well-balanced honey (which is NOT heavy to most) is a bit too much for my aged shoulder for three long sets.

$700 plus actual shipping costs in the lower 48 (I have at least $1000 in this instrument). Comes with a
14 day return guarantee if you're not happy. No bass trades, please. Would consider Godin guitars.

    Hi

I can't find my calipers, but with a tape measure, it looks like
1 9/16 in at the brass nut. Very comfortable.

    Thanks.

    Hi

So true. This is a mother.

The back micro switch is active/passive. The middle one
is for phase/out of phase. The front one is for series/parallel.
The knobs are for (front to back) volume, treble/bass, mid range (the latter also doubles as tone control in passive mode). The top switch, naturally enough, is a pickup selector.

It is like cutting off my right arm to sell this. It is a very
special bass. I have been playing it all day and love its versatility (from stygian depths to spankopotomus). Strung with flats. But sounds wonderful with rounds.

They really don't make basses like this any more. At least not at anywhere near this price.

    Another dumb question.

Original preamp? Just looking for other "like" basses, and all I see are passive versions?

Yes, the pre is definitely original. You can find original promo for this model on the web. I am sure they also made a passive version.
But this is stock except for the bridge pickup (which I think I still have and will toss in if its around).

Should anybody be predisposed against UNC, this color is also very close to Cambridge Blue (in case you are into Britrock).

Bump for a great bass. I had the double P version, and it was incredible. The pre was absolutely monstrous and once you get the hang of it's controls the tone are endless..I REALLY wish I had the dough!
