Spelling Drills

    After my article arguing the case for tab and fretboard patterns, here's a kind of opposing viewpoint (more of a tip or learning method really) advocating the use of spelling drills to get away from seeing music theory only with relation to the bass fingerboard. There are some tips on how and what you can practice.

    This is basically the practice of learning scales, arpeggios, intervals etc. etc. by note name rather than fretboard pattern.
    I also talk about the attitude of many bassists regarding academic music study, theory and reading.
