In all of the recordings I've listened to, this seems like an exception. It's especially interesting to me because I thought he used solid state stuff and this sounds like a tubey overdrive. Most recordings I hear sound like a highly compressed clean sound. I'm trying to chase this sound, and I can get fairly close on a Rickenbacker, but I'm curious how the crunch was achieved.

    Any guesses?

    His live tone is phenomenal.

I'm no expert, to me it sounds like the key to his tone is a HIGHLY compressed Streamer Stage II with some tube amps.
