Depends upon what tones you hear in your head. A '05 'Ray may have a better street value than $800. Depends upon condition.

If you really don't want the 'Ray, do the deal.

From a pure monetary perspective, a Ray is worth more than a Fender Hot Rod P/J bass.

To me, if really prefer the P/J and want to get rid of the Ray, go for it.

Otherwise, if your Ray is in good shape, I'd say he needs to pony up about $200 (but that's just me).

    All the best,

    Bob

What everyone else is saying... If your bass is in good shape it should command a higher price than the Fender. See what you can negotiate with the seller. If passive PJ is the tone in your head, the Ray is never going to cut it.

hey, also is that 800 canadian, if so I think your musicman is worth a little more than the +200 more like +250. What I mean is I thinnk the Stingray 5 is probably worth $1000 U.S. dollars which makes his only $750 U.S. when you convert it.

I don't like heavily modded basses. There is a possibility it is a cherry but there is a reason the guy is selling it after doing so much work to it. Does he have the original neck and PUP's to go with it? Definitely not a 1 for 1 trade as others have already said. To me it might be a nice complement to your Ray but would not replace it.
