I'm not saying he's never dived. Most centre forwards have at some point, and it would be ridiculous to claim otherwise.

I am saying that he is not in the same league as Suarez, Drogba, Klinsmann, Robben, Bale, Ronaldo (a few years back) et al.

Part IV - The Final Conflict!
Let's start with a poll to answer the last point in Part III :

On a scale of Lineker to Saurez, is Rooney a diving cheat?

    I vote No.

Don't know what it's like in the UK but over here the Liverpool fans are currently hard work.

I'm almost leaning towards a Liverpool win because I don't think I can handle the fall out of them dealing with their side dipping out in the final furlong.

Although them winning will certainly bring it's own set of problems.

    A scale of diving cheats?
I don't really have an opinion of why one is worse than the other.

That will change if Chelsea win the EPL by 1 point and WBA get relegated by 2. :)

I also don't believe it was a cynical attempt to get Schwiny a red either, in fact he looked awfully disappointed about that.

Agree with Bill, he's definitely no role model. He doesn't even register on the Suarez scale though.

I wouldn't call Rooney a cheat on that scale. ****hole yes, cheat no.

Suarez, on the other hand, should not even be in the PL. We should have sent the vile little racist biter home to send out a clear signal that people like him are not welcome here in English football, no matter what money unscrupulous clubs are prepared to pay them.

I haven't revisited the incident but my initial impression it was neither a foul (Schweinsteiger got the ball) nor a dive. Harsh red, no cheating.

On the incident in question, I agree with SVT. Referee error (who I doubt ever actually played,) as for me, Valencia should have walked for that challenge in the box - off his feet and reckless.

I was surprised that Valencia stayed on, but I think it would have been harsh too.

Okay, just to restore some less controversial banter - what was the very first top flight game you attended? Mine, perhaps surprisingly to those who don't already know, was at the Hawthorns and Albion beat Stoke 2-1. I think it would have been about 1971. I suppose I could look it up.

League game? I actually can't remember. I was up in the nosebleeds, with impaired vision to boot.

Obviously it was United, but for the life of me I can't remember who we played. It was Blackburn, or Bolton, I think. Having a look at the 2010/11 season on Wiki, I'm thinking it was the game against Bolton, ended 1-0 with a Berba goal in the 88th minute. That all sounds familiar.

EDIT: If you're including European football, the first was the April 2010 2nd leg against Bayern.

EDIT 2: I remember every other game I've been to clearly, oddly enough.

    You win. :D

(Or you would have won, if you hadn't mentioned the Motherwell game. :p)

Schweinsteiger got the ball but it was how he went in, studs up, that got him the card. In fact, it could have been a straight red. Referees really need to be more consistent with those calls, because they cause controversy when one ref enforces that rule and others don't.

What did you think of the Javi Martinez foul on Hernandez that would have been a breakaway? I thought Hernandez slipped and Martinez didn't deserve a card, but if the ref is going to give him a card on that play surely it merits a red. He was going clear on goal with only the keeper to beat.

Guadalajara vs. Can't Remember the Opponent: 1988. Next match was a couple of weeks later: Atlas vs Club America.

Would have been a harsh red again, as it was mostly Hernandez slipping. But it it was any card it had to be red, as he would have been through on goal. No matter what the commentators say, no way were the other defenders near close enough to cover Chicha in sprint.

1986? Fergie's first home game, United beating QPR 1-0, the goal a John Sivebaek free kick.
