I love the sound of both graphic 7/11/12 band models and also that that of the V-Types. They're different beasts altogether but somehow you know its still a Trace. I always used the valve blend setting at 3-o-clock on the SMX units i've had just because somehow it sounded "better". Less constrained and a little more open. Not that there is anything wrong with the 7 band models; I've owned SM and SMC amplifiers and they also did "that" thing that i need to hear/feel. I found the valve settings on the new 12 band models to again be subtle but also pleasant as long as its not grossly overdriven.

    Hi all,

I have a Commando 15 (older style with two inputs and a line out) that I'm still using, but it's a little low on power for my needs.

I want to use it as my preamp and get a power amp to boost the power, but I don't know if I can do that.

The line out on this combo has a really low signal. I plugged it into a mixer and I have to crank it up a good amount and the speaker in the combo is still connected (not muted).

If anyone can help me out here, I would appreciate it very much! I'm trying to keep the tone I love and make the best use of what I have.

I posted a thread a little while ago about what I would like to do. If you can help out, please post here

    Thanks,
    JB

    added you guys!

VtypeV4 I don't really get what you are saying... but I think I posed my question not entirely right. I'm wondering how the V4 and V6 all tube amps compare in sound to the twin/quatra/hexavalve all tube heads.

I'll tackle this one... the V-Series (V4, V6, V8) are a little more "vintage" in that they feature traditional tone controls set up like the old Fender Showman-type tone stack (flat at 2-10-2) whereas the Valve Series (Twin, Quatra, Hexa) feature several bands of SS graphic EQ plus the "mid pre-shape" boost. Two different approaches to the problem of "dialing in your tone". I happen to like both, but they are different animals.

Would you say they sound different enough to justify both a hexavalve and a V6?
