A worn ol' P through an Ampeg:
Bassist is Scot Sutherland with Samantha Fish.
I didn't notice no p bass...
That's girl's the real deal!!
Yeah, I just spent 2 hours watching her on y'tube.
Any girl that can rock war pigs is alright with me!
Fantastic. Love the p bass. That girl's strong. Helluva guitar player and her voice has an interesting twang to it. Kinda in the ballpark of Amy Winehouse maybe? Not sure that's it, but somebody.
Bass solo in this song from the same performance as above.
SAMANTHA FISH "Killing Floor" 3-21-14
I noticed the closeups during the bass solo that it looks like the bass has aftermarket pickups without exposed poles, perhaps EMGs?
She definitely has that 'something'.
Talent, stage presence, and delivery.
Pretty cute, too, and she seems like a real sweety in interviews.
I hope she does well.
WOW BOB WOW - that's way too much stimulation this early in the morning! How am I supposed to get through the rest of the day?
Seriously - what a power-house! (oh yah, what was this thread about?)
That was great! Thanks for sharing, I have a new artist to check out now.
Looks like that old P has a Jazz neck on it, judging by the decal on the headstock, and it looks pretty skinny at the nut too. The vid quality isn't great, but it looks like a early or mid '60s J decal.
a BA bridge and Dunlop strap-locks also - I love the way he looks - his presence both on bass and physically firmly states BASS PLAYER! A great trio!
Yeah! I'm happy to see Scot Sutherland getting some props on here! He's the best bass player nobody seems to know about. Every project he's been a part of over the last number of years ends up winning blues awards and he even was nominated for a "best bass player" blues award last year.
Here's a clip y'all HAVE to check out to understand what this cat is all about:
Scot's been playing this same P-bass for a while, but it's really starting to take a beating as those '70s poly finishes start flaking badly when exposed to lots of climate extremes. The bass is a '71 with EMG pickups, Badass bridge, and well worn in D'addario Brite Flats. It's a B-width neck as is standard on '68-'81 P-basses. Scot will jam some foam up under the strings near the bridge for a softer sound depending on the gig. Scot got a chance to hang with Duck Dunn at a blues event down in Memphis before Duck passed and got him to sign the bass. It is also signed by Rocco Prestia.
The bass is really nice, but Scot can make any bass sound like a million bucks...it's in his hands and his soul. Check his website and facebook pages for more info.
A little bit of Amy Winehouse, a little bit of Susan Tedeschi, and a whole lotta leg. I love the bass playing too. It's nice to see a lady playing the blues with style substance and skill rather than a prop-up pop style. I'm gonna lose a couple hours listening now...
I guess it's just the video quality.. it didn't look like the "TV logo" to me on the HS because they're usually easy to see, but I can see it on his pics on his site, so it is a '70s P neck. He's definitely a great bass player too!
Thanks for posting - he's speakin' our language w/that performance!
Thanks for the Youtube link. I watch the video and I liked it so much that I went on iTunes and bought 3 albums from her.
I believe Mr. Sutherland has played bass before. The only things I don't like are his shoes
