    Does anyone have any idea of the technology necessary to pull this off ???

    Back in the old days (early 70's) the source (bass) would be used as a trigger for VCOs (voltage controlled oscillators) VCAs (Voltage controlled amplifiers) sequencers, envelope filters, ADSRs (attack, delay, sustain, release), etc. These modules could be used to control each other so you can create sounds pretty much limited by your imagination.

    This guy probably got his hands on some old ARP or MOOG synthesizers.

    Aren't there Export Controls and Sanctions on such technology?
