I learned something cool helping a guy who found a badly neglected original Tele Bass.

It looked like a Nashville Flood Victim.

He carefully takes it apart to re-condition it and finds all the pots were pre-CBS with '63 date codes.

Fender ordered stuff like pots in the thousands and kept using them until they were down to minimum reserve stock.

I have posted this before but I thought you'd get a kick out of it again. Most of you guys know me as a Thunderbird player but I have always had a soft spot for the the Tele basses with the big humbucker. When I was a kid I would just day dream looking at the Tele bass in the '72 catalog. In the early 80's I got a steal on a factory CAR Tele but sold it almost as quick as I bought it to fund my Thunderbird obsession. I went for years without another Tele but found this '79 for $650.00 on Gbase. This is how I got her to many knobs and no Humbucker. Wired with two concentric pots 4 vol. I have thought about restoring the bass but it's not really worth it. plus it's pretty cool the way it is.:D[IMG][IMG]as she is now with a Squire Humbucker that sounds amazingly like the original pickup. At some point I am going to do a new pg for her to cover that screw hole.[IMG]

Dang, you need a patch bay! Seriously, I think more knobs might be in order...

edit: didn't look closely at the before pictures. How do you control all that with two knobs?

    #57 checking in!

1969 tele. Was my #1 for many, many years, but now mostly lives at home with my Jazz getting all the action. However, I have a new project, and I think the tele might be brought out of retirement.

I'm pretty sure that my bass was a rental bass for most of it's life... look how worn that neck is!! Lot's of non-orignal stuff, but still a very cool bass, and a great player.

They are stacked concentric pots, 4 vol. No need for a tone knob the bass has plenty of tone all on it's own!

    Welcome!

I need to get some pictures of my Telecaster Basses but as of right now they are at my attic. I will get the black one down to see some action for an upcoming gig, so I will probably take some pictures when the spring breaks out in full bloom.

Really nice. I like the blonde.

Here is another custom built. I owned this for a little while, but the neck was not for me. My 69 tele has a huge neck, but this one was HUGE! Very bright and snappy sounding - made of sugar pine.

Creston builds custom guitars and basses. Almost all of his bass builds are tele style. He works with a gal who does custom paint jobs. Check out this other creation of his and hers...

Those are both nice! I have heard of telecaster guitars being made with pine but never a tele bass. The color of the top one almost looks like British racing green.

Just picked up this beautiful Bluesman Novak 55 from funk7856. Really enjoying this bass, great fit and finish, tone a plenty. And then there's the B neck!!

Has anyone owned, or at least tried out, the new Telecaster basses? The ones with two humbucker pickups. Been toying with getting one as a backup to my current 72 Tele bass.

There are a lot of people who love them! I didn't really give it a fair shake when I tried one out as I was looking for something else, but if one were put in front of me I'd be much more open to it now.

Wish i had news for you guys- i installed a Modern Player pickup and assembled a new bridge from parts. The Warmoth neck, with rounded heel, may get replaced, but dang! it feels good! (but heavy)
i bought a new neck plate, thumb rest, and some other small bits...
Can i post a pic with my Tele Bass and her buddies? She keeps good company :)
