I've been shopping the local guitar repair/luthiers, looking to get some work done on a fretless; new nut, replace the extremely worn & dinged-up fingerboard, possible refinish, etc. Here's a few gems I've heard so far...

"New fingerboard? Fretless? It'll cost ya, $2,500 plus labor."

"What's fretless? You mean you want a bound fingerboard, right?"

"You busted a nut on your bass? No wonder you want it refinished! Huh huh huh..."

"I only work on guitars. I don't know how to fix a bass guitar."

    And maybe my favorite:
"There ain't no such thing as a fretless bass."

"Wait, your bass was supposed to be ready today?"

"You want me to make this playable?"

"You'll never believe what I found in the electronics cavity!"

I've pretty much heard everything at one point or another that entail varying degrees of $$, from new nut to refret.

But the number one thing I don't want to hear my tech say -

"The neck has a twist in it..." :bawl:
  8. Nope, you shouldn't have done that!
  9. "I hate Rickenbackers, but sure, I'll see what I can do..."

    Inspired by this jerk:
  10. I won't be able to get to it for a few weeks, we're really backed up here."

I hope you don't mean it when calling Dave a jerk. He shows alot of secrets that other luthiers will not share, he has a wealth of information. Then again I work on my own gear, you may not.
  12. Dave is awesome.

    And that video is hilarious!

I was doing the same, because my acoustic had something wrong with it, I kid you not....

It was a problem with the bridge, which I eventually got my go to guy to fix.

I had this luthier that always set ultra-low action on every instruments I brought him, regardless of what I asked. I eventually found out he wasn't changing my string when he said he did, he just boiled my old string and charged me for a new set. He also shimmed the neck of all my bass without reason and would set the trust rod so every neck had a slight back-bow...

Everytime I brought him a bass he would say "That model can't be set up for high action"

    Worst luthier ever.

LOL that was 10 minutes well spent!
  21. "Yeah, the crack goes clean through, and all the way down..."

    ... :crying:

"The cost of repair will be considerably more than what the bass could ever be worth."

    ... :bawl:

    "There was a problem..."
