And if so, do any of you have pics of Purple guitar or bass from that era. Specifically a P bass would be great.

Looking at possibly buying one but the pics from the seller aren't great.

    Thank you!

I had a '99 MIM Jazz bass that was "Midnight Blue." It did look purple and in different light, more of a burgundy color.

I have an Am. Std. purple P bass body from '99 or '00 in metallic purple that looks a little more plum than purple. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, but it is purple, and Fender, and from that era. I found pictures of telecasters and strats that match the color of my body on google. Here's an example...

Yes, I had a '98 Am. Std. P-bass in purple w/a maple neck. ...sold it to a friend, still going strong. This was not "blue" at all, this was (is) purple. Pictures would be difficult, sorry. You'll have to take my word for it :).

PS: I just realized it's actually in my avatar!

Pretty sure Midnight Blue (MIM) and Purple Metallic (MIA) are completely different colors. Midnight Blue has a hint of purpleish but Purple Metallic has little relation to blue at all, more of a plum.

Yes, Fender did have a Purple (It was a metallic) shade and I do believe it was from the nineties, and despite what some may think, Midnight Blue was an entirely different color.

To sum up, there was a color Fender had called Purple Metallic, which was similar, but not the same as Midnight Wine or Burgundy Mist, but at least they were all a shade of purple, Midnight Blue had maybe a hint of purple, but was considered a shade of blue.

Thanks guys. He is supposed to get some better pics to me soon. I will swing back by and clear it up if/when he does. I am actually fine with the color as long as it is stock. And it sounds like (even though there is some disagreement as to which color was made where) that there was a very purple stock color offered on MIA P basses in '99. And that is really the piece of info I was after.

    Thank you again!

Yes...they are very real. I have a bone stock mint condition 1999 Fender American Standard Precision Bass in Metallic Purple that I ordered from Musicians Friend. I even still have the original catalog I ordered it from as well as (I believe) all of the original paperwork. Even the strings have never been replaced, as weird as that is. It was the last one in that color that Musicians Friend had and probably one of the last ones made period, since I got it on clearance when Fender got rid of the American Standard line for several years and switched to the American series.

I had the Stratocaster with three single coils, the P bass and the HH Strat. I only have the HH Strat now.
