    Hey there,
I have a 82 Thunder I Westone Bass and a 82 Westone Thunder I guitar. Love them both.the bass was my number one for over 10 years ,great tone. The guitar has some of the best tones to be had. Westone was Matsomuko's own brand and still sell way below their value point. Good luck with yours.

    Wolfman Charlie:-

    I don't currently own a Westone Thunder1

I discovered this bass accidentally...I'd never heard of it

After much online perusal, turns out:-

    (1) They were inexpensive but damn good as far as the Thunder 1,2 and 3 go.....(also the headless model was very good)

    (2) Spectras weren't as good as the Thunders

    (3) They were built rock-solid and had a good tone

    (4) They use 18volt system (2 batteries) and had a switch for "passive/active"

    (5) Very popular bass in the UK during the eighties.....

    Still researching..........:)

I played a fretless Thunder 3 a few days ago, first time I'd seen one too, I thought it was great, it took a lot of effort not to grab it and buy it there and then. Amazing vintage fretless tone. I think the only reason I didn't buy it was because it was unlined, and I don't trust myself to play fretless that much yet.

I had one. Got it off the local CL for $50 :)
Great little bass. Light, well made, sounded like a P-bass to me.
