    Okay,

My girls parents like to spend their leisure time in Reno so we'll occasionally join them, this weekend being one of those times.

While I enjoy just relaxing in the casino (we stay at the Peppermill), having some libations and losing a few bucks at the blackjack table, I also want to take advantage of the fact that there's probably some stuff we don't have in my hometown.

Couple weeks ago we went to the National Auto Museum, which was amazing. Planning to hit the disc golf course that we just discovered near town. But what else?

What are some good tips for visiting Reno?

Good and preferably cheap fun that can take up an afternoon?

    Lets hear em...

Well, for sure in Reno you can't miss guys in wife beaters and 10 gallon hats walking through the casino carrying an 18 pack of Bud Light cans with them at all times.

Among other things, Reno (and other towns on the 395 corridor, like Carson City and Minden) is Basque country.

If you like food adventures, check out a Basque restaurant. In Reno, I recommend Louie's. Have a Picon Punch, which I have never seen outside Basque country. Remember you are at 5000'+ if you're drinking...

The Great Basin Brewing Company (across from John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks) has great craft beers and food. Try a Cervesa Chili Beso if it's in season - excellent with their fish & chips.

Been a while since I was back there - give me a while to remember what else to do there...

At least I didn't post, "come for the huge losses gambling; stay for the hookers!"

Ha! My future father in law drinks pretty much only Bud light when he drinks beer and he's sure to have his ten gallon hat case with him, though he dresses very sharp.

I've learned that when he comes to visit, a sure fire way to keep him happy is to stock the house with Bailey's (morning), Bud lite (afternoon) and Grey Goose (night). Also, some fireball for the ladies...

You haven't lived until you've shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.

    Thats a good suggestion!

Probably some awesome stuff getting pawned in Reno.

Though I doubt the desperation of the people pawning their stuff translates to the pawn shop owner re-selling it. :atoz:

So far it looks like the winners are the Animal Sanctuary and the Planetarium. Relatively cheap and fun although, also things we have near home.

Take a drive to Tahoe. Take the mount rose scenic drive. It's awesome.
