I think stereotypes hold more water then people give credit to.

Like people that don't know the difference between THAN and THEN being troglodytic? That kind of stereotype?

Nope, I don't buy into stereotypes, but I see you do. If it was comic that you do, it might even be ironic but it is not therefore it is merely laughable that it can occur in a so-called advanced society.

What is ironic is that some people think they are smarter than others and don't know the difference between than and then.

Perhaps "If it WERE comic" (subjunctive mood) then you would have a point.

Stereotypes came into being for a reason. That reason is that they are quite often correct. While I try not to espouse them myself, I (unlike the super human perfect person we have just heard from) do sometimes make assumptions based on outward appearance. By the way, so does every single person in this "advanced society" who claims he does not.

How's that for an unpopular opinion?

In certain parts of my community, evolution is a very unpopular opinion.

    I am a friggin stereotype.

As far as unpopular opinions go: You aren't really all that special. Your kids aren't all that special either. The vast majority of humanity is either average, or below average. Deal with it.

Some people are "advanced" enough to be able to understand where biases based on outward appearance may come into play. These people can then continually work on changing the way they think to subvert those biases.

I like the adversarial tone so early in this thread.

I like to think that Off Topic is a repository for a sampling of my many, many unpopular views.:|

Actually, roughly half of the population is average or below, the other rough half would be average to above average.

Many of my opinions are unpopular because I haven't let the TV or liberal arts college courses make me doubt my own senses.

Without getting political? Ummm... Fender basses are for the birds. There are other, more intriguing, copies.

I suppose it also depends on the bar you set for what an "average" persons supposed to be. With modern medicine and health care, we are genetically inferior compared to our ancestors.

Sorry, but this isn't an unpopular opinion. Get outta here!

That being said, I <3 the DMV.
