What Bass did Bootsy Collins use on this song?

    It sounds like a Jazz to me, which I know he played in the early days with James Brown, but I think he used his star bass in the p funk days. This record, Frantic Moment, was from 1977 off of Eddie Hazels solo album. Just wanted to get someone elses opinion as to what they think it is.

    He was known for playing a jazz bass with an excessive amount of pickups...Check out some google images of his star basses.

    ah, cool. So the star bass was actually just a jazz bass shaped into a star with extra pickups? Thanks I never knew that. For some reason I always thought it had humbuckers or active pickups or something.

    yeah, i heard that when james brown picked up bootsy, he had been rocking an electric guitar he converted into a bass. brown apparently said it was time for bootsy to have a real bass and went out and bought him a jazz bass. not sure what mods would have been done to them, but pretty sure the star/space bass was a bottom up custom job
