I get intrigued by all these variations, Blacktop, Roadworn, Vintage Modified

but when I go to some site for more details and get a price on a 5, they don't all come in 5.

So I ask which come in 5's

I'm pretty sure VM Jazz and Precision do, (and I have an increasing obsession with the VM Jazz V) but beyond that, not sure.

There's the squier jag 5. There's the old P5 with 2 jazz pickups and the deluxe active 5.

Or you could get a used Fender jazz 5 for $300-$400ish.

Check out the new Modern Player Jazz V (satin). That's a pretty impressive bass. Only down I've heard from anyone is weight.

from what I read bigger wider neck on the Modern Player Jazz V than the VM Jazz V

VM Jazz V more suited for smaller hands

    wrench45us,

Both the modern player and the VM Jazz V (which I own) are 1.875" at the nut. I the VM5 has a modern C shape neck. I I believe the MP does as well.

Both also have the same radius, 9.5" and are 20 fret.

I suggested the MP V for the pickup options. It has a really wide range of tones and my VM5 is a Jazz Bass, pure and simple.

Here are the specs for both:

    http://www.fender.com/squier/series...-jazz-bass-v-maple-fingerboard-olympic-white/

    All the best,

    Bob

(I am actually an immortal funk-soldier awaiting return to my home galaxy)
For my personal taste l would choose a modern player. Huge passive sound and somewhat versatile (like a G&L). Had a four string which l traded to a tb'er (warrior joe7). China is making some great stuff these days. (I'm pretty sure Yao Ming endorses these)
