I was doing yard work today cranking the Queen Jazz CD, and I was once again blown away by Brian May's guitar tone. In my opinion, the solo on Don't Stop Me Now is the epitome of great rock lead guitar sound.

    Who does it for you?

Brian May’s tone is great I agree. I like Angus Young’s and Steve Howe’s too. But Steve Hackett has the ultimate tone IMO.

There are so many great ones out there.

I came in to post Angus, EVH, and Brian May and I see I'm not alone. They are all just so clear and articulate, yet extremely powerful.

    Jeff Beck on anything
Joe Walsh, especially the "Rides Again" album
Pete Townshend's tone on "Who Are You" is totally underrated and to die for.

    Page of course.

Neil Young always gets a great tone, from crushing to clean, whatever the song needs

Robin Trower's strat tone always kills. Check out the Seven Moons DVD with Jack Bruce (bass content!).

Love Mike McReady's tone with Mad Season. Harder to pick him out of the Pearl Jam mix.

Gordie Johnson - always great tone, crushing to clean. Uses SVT heads too - more bass content for the thread!

Reading No Way Out, Alan Paul's book on the ABB...it's mentioned that Duane Allman loved every guitarist except two-
    Sonny Sharrock
    Jimmy Page
...no explanation given about why Page disagreed with his tastes.

Slash, Brian May, EVH just to name a few.

Well could be he was sick of the name! Wonder how many times he was compared to Page, or asked if Page's use of a Les Paul was the reason he chose to play one?
