I'm a huge fan of stand-up. Some of my favorite "newer" comics are Al Madrigal, John Mulaney, and Hannibal Burress.

He's not technically a comedian, but I think Anthony Cumia is one of the funniest people on the planet.

Put me on team Louie... and I know he doesn't really do standup, but Adam Carolla kills me.

I really miss Mitch Hedberg's surrealistic weirdness.

    not many nowadays.

Ricky Gervais. I love that he's a dick to everyone.

Does Stephen Colbert count? he doesn't do standup or anything but he's very much a comedian and yeah he has a writing team but he's actually awesome at improvising too (like in interviews)

Young Eddie Murphy was great. I'm talking 80's.

    Monty Python.

Jack Handy (his deep thoughts. Very jealous of those)

Demetri Martin. At least back a few years ago when he started. Haven't checked his stuff in a while

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Richard Pryor.

I'm only surprised because for some reason lots of people consider him the greatest comedian ever and I've never felt that way at all.

I've seen lots of his stuff with and the most he's ever gotten out of me was a chuckle.

I did enjoy most of his 80's movies with Gene Wilder but only because they just happened to be funny movies.

His stand up never did it for me.

    George Carlin

That's just off the top of my head.

I'll bet there are very few women get a mention. Just sayin'....:)

...though I do like Sarah Silverman.

Louis CK for me these days and I dig Sarah Silverman. How about her joke about what do you call a person that calls themselves a diva but is not a musician? Can't complete the joke here but it had me rolling on the floor.
