Capacitor

From TalkBass Wiki

A device which can store an electric charge. Probably the cheapest, easiest, most dramatic means of altering tone in a bass from changing component(s). Standard bass is .05 mfd, the higher the value the bassier the tone becomes as the high notes (and attack) is rolled off. Conversion chart for various expressive values: http://www.justradios.com/uFnFpF.html

[edit] Common Values

  • 0.022uF - Rarely used in basses due to its relatively low ability to role off the high frequencies.
  • 0.047uF - The most common value used in bases.
  • 0.1uF - Often found in vintage bases where no tone pot is used, with the capacitor always being fully engaged.
