Pre-Ernie Ball vintage 1977 Music Man Sting Ray in mocha finish that is in excellent condition. Comes with original case and recently cleaned up/fret polished/and set up. I have put in an aged white pickup cover but of course have the original black one as well that I can put back on if desired.
This was owned by one guy since 1980 and I have only had it for a few months in my studio. It sat mostly in a case for decades so it is well preserved. The guy sold it to me because he had back surgeries and it’s too heavy for him. I will work on getting an exact weight asap, but it is not super heavy honestly.
All original besides the preamp which was put in decades ago, and some fresh new mute pads. As I understand the history, decades ago people could trade in the two band pre amp for the newer three band at the time. So the owner did this as well as put in a new output jack before deciding to change it back to a two band. So it currently has a two band pre amp that is the same as the original one, just not the exact original one from the bass. As a result there is an extra output jack not in use that could technically be wired as a passive output if desired.
It is in VERY good condition and even has very minimal fret wear. There are only a few frets where you can even see any wear at all and it’s minimal. I can send some up close photos. Very minor scars indicative of natural relic’ing/cosmetic wear expected of a 50 year old instrument, but in very good shape overall; especially where it counts.
Sounds and plays wonderfully and has that vintage sting ray sound. This deserves to be somebodies dream bass! I just find myself into five strings more lately. Mostly looking to sell but open to trade ideas. Ideally for something plus cash. Or a Novo miris/serus guitar
I’ve talked to vintage dealers regarding pricing and given it’s condition, I am looking for $4500 plus shipping. Located on the Oregon Coast. Thank you for reading!
