Well...let me just say this...this is a funk monster! I HATE maple fretboards, but I have to say...this is just the best playing neck on a bass period I have owned (with very low action)...effortless. The bass has been converted to a L2000 at some point and a Ken Smith pre, with push/pull active passive knob and dual parallel and single coil switch. Has a custom pick guard, a drop D, and comes with a excellent condition molded Musicman case with keys (that actually fits this bass like a glove). Plenty of player wear...this would definitely be a players bass (but it is 30 years old lol)...so lets just say it has a great, REAL relic job ;) Some fretwear, but still plenty of life.

I know there are plenty of statements made on here...but let me say this again...the BEST playing neck I have owned, and if I didn't DETEST maple boards...this bass would be buried with me...it plays that good and sounds naaaasssty. The bass is a 10 on mojo period!

Forgot to mention...I won't reject all trade offers...but it will need to be something killer as I need the cash to pay off other things ;)

Bump for being a previous owner of this bass. Lots of kick with lots of speed up and down the neck. Great buy!!! She is already missed..... :meh:

Hello everyone, I'm new to TB. Er well, a long time lurker, but just registered because I'm starting to get in the market for a new bass and this seems like a pretty good place to look.

Something about this bass is calling me... I have been thinking about saving up for one of the new Dingwall combustions but I'm not sure I'll make it long enough to have that much saved up if I keep looking at TB.

A few questions about this bass now. How well does it balance? You said is has very low action, I assume no fret buzz anywhere right? Are the p-ups original? And finally what do each of the knobs do?

Balances well, low action, fret buzz is " each persons opinion"...IMHO very minimal, pups are orignal G&L's ...although one extra one was added to turn this into a L2000, Vol(push pull active/passive)/pan/bass/treble stack , switch I was told is dual parallel and single coil switch.

One more quick question, in the first couple pictures the blue on the body is a lot darker. Is the bass actually two different colors on the front and back or was there just a shadow on the bass from the case?

Yes...the bass is all one color. The back with flash looks lighter than it actually is ;)

I'm chiming in as this is my old bass that I sold to poman. The bass was originally an L1000 that I had converted to an L2000 by Luthier Steve Spaulding in Oregon. He also added the Ken Smith pre which was my choice at the time because I wanted to make the bass active but keep the 3-knob configuration. The mini toggle is a coil tap on the bridge pickup to give it more of a PJ pickup tone for some variety in tone. Also, I have him but vintage style frets on the bass. I had another luthier friend make the pickguard for it. This bass has Killer tone and I can vouch for the neck which is one of the best I ever played. I remember the weight being in the 9.5-10 lb range. The finish is original and kind of an aqua blue or some sort. I still really miss this bass sometime....saw many many gigs from me.
I needed some funds at the time and sold off some of my heavier basses ...that is why the bass left me.
