Hiya, I'm a UK resident so can't really afford to look into offers from the US due to postal/tax issues.

I'm after a cheap fretless bass if any of you guys have an old/unused one lying around. Any cosmetic 'inuries' such as dents are no problem unless they effect the bass to an extent.

Please get back to me on here or email me at [email protected] if you'd rather!

Thanks a lot!

Hi
I have an Encore P-bass copy that I defretted myself as a starter and no longer use. Ideal to get started and to find out if fretless is for you without spending a fortune. I live in North Bucks but could ship it to you. Interested?

The only problem with a cheap fretless - or with any cheap bass - is that the lack of quality may put you off prematurely.

Until recently I had an Immage P-bass copy (my first bass) which I defretted ages ago. Stiff tuners, plastic nut, noisy pickups and flimsy bridge (not to mention old strings and my less than expert luthierery) meant that I virtually never played it and so I finally gave it away as soon as I found someone to take it (I'll be interested to see if he gets round to making much use of it).

I've now got my Washburn XB-600 which I had professionally defretted - much more fun to play... good sound, good feel and thus encouraging to play.

Therefore, look for a bargain but beware of holding the purse strings so tight that you get an instrument to put you off rather than push you forward.

Wulf

ps. bornaginbassist - what state is your Encore in?

Not bad - looks presentable, plays OK bearing in mind market sector they are in. I too am not an expert luthier but managed a reasonable job de-fretting (with guidance obtained in this forum). Rosewood fingerboard with fret slots filled with light coloured filler to give fretlines. Black body with white scratchplate. I aimed to get into fretless then fell for 5 string and that's all I play now. Still want to get into fretless sometime but would now want a 5, which I hope to do one day. In the meantime the Encore sleeps under the bed in it's gig bag.

Filler? Gosh - I knew there was something I forgot! :D

I'm sure your Encore is better than my Immage was ... that's one for you to follow up, Yoshi.
