Anyone remember the FRAP? This was the first of the really accurate piezo accelerometer pickups. I have a FRAP IT, as seen here:
It consists of a tiny accelerometer held on with a sticky wax (or the goop of your preference) with an amplifier in the accerometer, and a batter box located at the end of about 6' of cable. The box has a belt clip attached with velcro.
I paid $70 for this pickup almost 20 years ago (which is about $120 in 2005 dollars.) There's a bit of oxidation on the aluminum battery box, and the cable is a bit stiff compared with 20 years ago, but electrically it works fine, and attached to the table of the bass it produces a pretty accurate sound. Anyone interested for $50, postpaid?
