This is my old bass. I just traded my Roscoe 6 fretless for a mint MB2 5 string. I regretted selling this RA and glad to have one back in the fold. Great basses.

I believe it is the rare 'swirly perfection kickassium' wood from the ancient forest of rural Spotsilvania

Rob Allen basses are the easiest 35" scale basses to play on the market. Between his bridge placement and top horn, the first position reach is shorter than most 34" scale basses. It felt about like my Fender Urge I (32" scale). No lie.

I am so tempted. It would work so well in my jazz group. I had planned on using a WAV EUB but this would sound just as good - maybe better - and be easier to haul around and play.

No idea. Maybe try sending the serial number to Rob and see if he can tell you. I really love the way that bass looks. I'd love to have it back but I don't have the cash at the moment.

I just read through a thread in the " basses " section on buckeye burl . That's what it may be .

Looks like a big ol maple burl to me. Buckeye has some grey coloring in every top I have ever seen. Betcha a dollar its maple.

I have a coworker who is a knife collector. When I showed him this, he said that he had knives with handles made of this. He said "Burl" but a quick google says that "burl" is any wood that gets a big ole twisted knot on the trunk of a tree from some kind of disease. Ewww.

Sure is purdy, though. Too bad I don't do lined fretless.
