I used this bow all through college from 1991-1995. After that, I unfortunately moved away from upright completely to electric. I used it some for a couple of years after college but after that it has remained unused.
Similar new W. Seifert bows currently sell anywhere from $999 HERE to $1,599 HERE
It is in excellent shape but does have some wear due to its age. I believe it was used when I bought it in '91 so it is at least @20 years old. It could probably use a rehair since it was last done back when I was using it in college. I have not pursued it since I don't play upright anymore.
Here are the current specs (from one of the sites selling new ones):
Stick: Medium dark brown pernambuco, round shape stick;
Frog: French style handmade ebony frog, with abalone slide, parisiene eye, fully lined;
Button: Divided nickel silver and ebony barrel button with pearl end dot;
Wrap: Black leather over nickel silver wire;
Specs: 138-140 grams, 72cm overall length.
Comment: These bass bows are from the well-known workshop of Lothar Seifert. Because several bowmakers work on each step of the bowmaking process the bows are considered 'workshop' bows and are signed W. Seifert. All the members of the Seifert family are certified masters. Their workshop bows set the standard for consistency in grading the sticks, as well as best quality custom frogmaking (done in-house), hairing, and fitting.
Seifert double bass bows consistently draw a good, dark, rich orchestra sound, and are well-known for their similarity of character, tone production, and playability.
Another W. Seifert bow sold here recently and I liked the seller's "audition" terms so forgive me if I steal them and copy them to this listing
I am willing to send this bow out for 14 day (include transit time both ways) audition given the following considerations:
- Must have verifiable positive TalkBass or eBay feedback rating
- Full price deposit via PayPal prior to bow being sent out
- If returned, insured shipping to be paid by auditioning party
- If returned, PayPal deposit less shipping will be refunded upon receipt of bow in same condition as sent out.
Asking $375. I prefer Paypal.
