Looking for an older 7 or more recent 8 string Chapman Stick Bass tuned in fourths. NOT a 10 String Standard Stick, which I have, or a Grand Stick but the Stick Bass. Can't believe that one sold here recently and I wasn't watching the boards. Ah well. Chances that there is another out there with an owner thinking about selling are slim, but it's worth a shot. Price I'm willing to pay will be commensurate with age, condition, etc. Thanks.

If you haven't already, be sure to check the StickWire and StickNews email lists (and call Stick Enterprises). By all means stay away from eBay--last few times I've checked, Stick prices have been absurdly high. Good luck.

Thanks, Winston. Great tip. Yeah, the prices on ebay have been so high I've been tempted to sell my Brazilian ironwood Standard Stick, serial #988, to pay my mortgage. Hah. Thanks again for the tip. I'll check into that list.

Another great tip. Much appreciated. Yeah, I may be joining a progressive original band and the previous bassist not only played a fiver (and I'm a four string guy from way back), he also detuned the B even lower. So I figured that the Stick Bass might be the way to go. Extend the range without going the five string route. For some reason, I've never gotten comfortable with five string basses, even though I've tried several times in the past. The Stick Bass would be different from my Stambaugh basses and from my Standard Stick and, illogical as this may sound, might make the transition to dealing with that low B (not to mention strings above G) easier on me. Thanks again, guys, for the helpful info.

The likelihood of finding a used Stick bass in my price range were slim to none, so I grabbed a used Pedulla Rapture 5 instead. Of all the fivers out there, this one seemed the best choice to accommodate my need for a B string. Lightweight, solid B tone, 34" scale, comfy neck. So thanks to all who shared your insights, but the need for the extended range had to be met sooner than later.

Congrats! I recently got a used Pedulla Rapture J 2000 5 and it's quickly become my number one bass. Been playing so much bass lately, the Stick's been in the closet for a while...

Yeah, Winston. Once I get past the muscle memory issues of being a four string player for so many years (especially when moving from a higher to lower string and hitting notes on a string not adjacent: I keep landing between the A and the D, say, instead of on it), this will probably be a frequently played addition. If I weren't redoing a track for a CD, replacing a part played on a 5 by the previous bassist, I would have been happy with my fours forever. But this one, a single Bart model, is a tone monster. I've owned two four string single pup Raptures in the past, one candy green and the other a tobacco sunburst one that I sold to a fellow TBer, and I love everything about them. So when I saw this one used and mint, I figured, hey, I have to get into the studio soon and I've recorded with my Raptures before, so why not give it a go? It'll take me a while to get comfortable, I'm sure, but if I was going to go the bass and not the Stick route, this was the best possible choice for me. Take care. And thanks again for the help.
