After dealing with acute GAS, acquiring some good gear this year and TONS of research, I've figured out a few things:
1) I'm a 4-string guy, and always will be
2) A good tube preamp kills
3) So does a BBE Sonic Maximizer
4) I still haven't owned a bass that I'm satisfied with
But: I've played one that satisfied me, and it's time for me to find one if I can. So ...
WTB: a Zon Sonus 4, used (can't afford $3K for a new one) with as bare-bones a top and finish as possible. I prefer a wood finish (no bursts, please) or a dark opaque color (no white, please) and two pickups (Linear J-style, soapbar, whatever). I know these aren't easy to find (and most Zons that I've seen are 5ers to boot), so I'm prepared to wait a while ... but maybe I'll get lucky, eh?
