Fender has gone wild!

Ok, so i have read threads about the upcoming Fender price hikes. So i bought a Fender MIA P5 a couple of weeks ago and i was thinking of buying a jazz version also. I got mine from MF for $1199 and today they up the price for the same bass now costs $1539, that is a $340 increase that is almost a 30% increase...RIDICULOUS! I guess Fender is off my gas list now, at least a new one. :hmm:

It is odd.. I have a little difficulty understanding the logic behind this. Economy is in a slump, and Fender isnt selling as many guitars, so they raise the price to make up the difference??? Does not compute.....

I agree with everyone else...this is ridiculous. Makes no sense that people have less money to spend so manufacturers are now raising prices to make up for a loss in sales...which will ultimately lead to less sales yet again. Fender made a big jump but a few other companies are raising prices as well.

Price hikes are usually to quell demand. rickenbacker is currently doing this.

This is the increase we have all been told would happen.

$1000 for a Highway 1 is steep though, and 980 for a Jazz Aerodyne, that earlier this week (monday actually) only cost $749.

We can say it over and over, buy used. You are getting a steal at used prices. My 08 American Jazz cost me 750, and will cost someone else $1500 for essentially the same thing.

Thank you TB classifieds!

there have been a few threads about this previously.

the prices were already supposed to go up. on theperfectbass.com they went up when they were supposed to but then dropped back down. i believe this is to boost the sales of the old stock.

i talked with my local dealer because i was pretty pissed about Fender hiking their prices. I have owned 4 08 American Standards Jazz basses and 1 American Standard precision bass. I did not feel that these basses were worth 1500. To be honest, I didn't feel they were worth 1200. I bought them all used to save money. Also, with the economy in the tanker I felt that it was a stupid move on Fenders part to raise prices.

My guitar dealer explained to me that last year Fender lost their @$$. Wood had went up a lot and they were importing wood to build their bass/guitars, but imported wood had went up significantly as well.

He still claims Fender is the best bang for the buck bass, but i'm not sure about that now.

I'm sure other manufacturers will as i can understand the cost of manufacturing may have gone up some but not %30. Can you imagine if the car industry did this? I can see a slight increase but this it out of phase of what is going on economically now. I guess Fender can hike it all it wants as i will not be buying one now.

I sold you that bass!

Hope your enjoying it. Out of all the 08s I owned, that was probably my favorite!

The price hikes are completely absurd. What is more insulting than the increases themselves is that Fender is calling the now $660 MIM Jazz "All New!"

And $999 for a Geddy with painted binding. C'mon.

Best I can tell, they redesigned the pickups on the MIM. All new-- give me a break!

Commodities prices have crashed, economy in the tank, etc. but it makes no difference.

With all the consolidation in distribution (i.e. music stores)Fender and GC are colluding to create absolute pricing power. Fender's brand is strong, every player new and old feels it is a rite of passage to have a Fender, and frankly, a lot of their biz comes from young players who mow lawns or whatever to save up for the bass, so I do question how much the economy effects guitar sales. Can't help but the impact might not be as dramatic as you would think.

If this bothers you, best thing you can do if you must have a Fender is buy used.

And if you are way pissed at Fender, buy from Rondo Music and support a famaily owned business!

I remember when I first got into it a MIM P was $349 and $384 for a MIM Jazz, which is about what I picked mine up for. I know the economy is wrecked and all, but $660 for a MIM Jazz? $620 for a MIM P? Hello Rondomusic.com....

No kidding, I've had a few MIM's over the years and they are just simply not even worth close to that. I actually prefer my SX's to any of the MIM fender's I had.
