First of all, ultimate punk bass there. I like it especially the mismatched pup halves.

Next, pickups and wiring forum is the place for this one. Ask a mod to move it.

My thinking is this. Solders on some spots are definitely suspect and I have no doubt that they’re failed. I think this was not properly done by a competent tech by the state of the solders. That’s captain obvious. I also think that more length was needed than the stock wire, to place the board and pots where he needed them to be, and all he had was red wire.

First thing I would do is reflow some spots and redo some other spots and plug it in and see what happens. A chance remains that the guy that did it had the right plan, but simply can’t solder.

      thanks for your reply.

I shall ask a mod to help me move this to a proper spot. I apologize I thought I had it in that forum.

The previous owner was definitely in a punk band. Apparently they played a few larger shows in the 90’s but he’s very very humble and doesn’t like to name drop (but you named the overall vibe off the bat so great work)

there’s a really really good chance that his wiring is poopie. I’m gonna try your suggestions and try and touch up some of the soldered connections first. I’d really like to take a look at that orange-white wire that leads to the output jack. I don’t know what is going on there but it looks very off.
