I am in my forties, and I am really just starting to play the bass. I started it a little bit in my twenties, but was distracted at that time. Did not play until picking up the guitar a few months ago. Playing guitar and enjoying it. I have pretty good technique foundations. I was hesitant to try a 6 string, but when I heard about it, I was intrigued, and got hooked. I love the idea of being able to keep my fretting hand in the same position and not having to move as many frets. I want to be able to play melody and colored chords at times. I like both the lowest and highest notes.

I want to be able to play in some small groups for jazz improvisation, straight ahead. I would also like to learn funk skills. I started classical piano at 6 and played until high school graduation; played flute in middle school to high school; then switched to trombone. Played trombone in college and wanted to be a jazz trombonist. Bought an electric bass. Took double bass lessons after college, and played tuba on demand. Went to medical school; quit music for 20 years. Dabbled with trombone and bought a tenor sax after finishing medical residency. Quit for few more years. Bought an acoustic guitar and several electric guitars. Took a few guitar lessons. Started playing piano and saxophone again.

Looking for my first 6 stringer. I want very much to play on a 35 inch scale bass. I am willing to buy a 34 inch bass as a starter, but I don't want to delay my move to 35 inches!
