- Gigs and Ensembles:
- Current main gigs include the Jim McCann Jazz Project, Handsome Al & the Lookers, and the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra. Nowadays I work (for pay) about once a week on average. I have a wife, two boys ages 16 and 18, and a day job in information technology. My gigs are 75% straightahead jazz on upright. After I moved from Northern Virginia to NC in '92, I played w/ the jump blues & swing outfit Marie LeBleu and the Comitz. I managed to get my name in Billboard magazine w/ them in 2002. Woo hoo. Much later, in 2010, I played w/ the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra when they came to central NC. Notable recent highlights include backing Heart of Carolina guest artists Larry Coryell, Steve Turre, Dave Valentin, Marlene VerPlanck, Virginia Mayhew, Eve Cornelius, Cécile McLorin Salvant, and Houston Person. I also used to work at times with a group led by Dave Wright, and I still sometimes do gigs with Tim Smith, both formerly members of the Squirrel Nut Zippers.
