Gavri-Tov Yares has toured, performed, and taught in America, Europe, and the Middle East. Alongside his brother Ami, he performs regularly with their duo The Brothers Yares which explores their Semitic and American roots.

As a musician, Gavri-Tov has studied double bass with Ranaan Meyer of Time for Three, Brent Edmondson (Delaware Symphony Orchestra), and Tim Dilenschneider (Baltimore Symphony Orchestra). Beyond playing the bass, his wheelhouse includes guitar, mandolin, cello, oud, and a variety of percussion instruments. Some of my past and current music projects and ensembles include The Brothers Yares (Philadelphia), Nava Tehila (Jerusalem), Marom Band (Philadelphia), and Over the Divide (Washington, D.C.).

While not on the road, Gavri-Tov teaches music at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Maryland. In his classroom, the goal is music literacy where he encourages students in kindergarten through 5th grade to dive into the vast world of music as a performer, creator, and active listener. In addition, Gavri created the school’s string orchestra program, directs the 4th & 5th Grade choir, and incorporates many hands on opportunities for all ages including Afro-Caribbean drumming, Boomwhackers, ukuleles, and body percussion.
