About
- Location:
- hollywood, baby......
- Occupation:
- a weird corner of the entertainment industry
- Current Setup:
-
61 P (Olympic white)
64 P (sunburst) - my main 'go to' bass
97 (?) Danelectro Longhorn reissue
Ampeg sb-12 1965 (7868 version)
Aguilar Tone Hammer 500
Aguilar DB112nt (2ea)
Fender Bassman 135 (circa 1978)
Fender Princeton (circa 1970)
- Favorite Genres:
- post-war blues (before it turned into "blues-rock"), mid 60s garage (sonics, etc), beatles / stones, mid-70s NYC punk (thunders, dead boys) and the best music for bass players - soul and r&b music from 50s to the early 70s (from Larry Williams to Eddie Floyd and Howard Tate to Dyke and the Blazers and Curtis Mayfield). And pretty much anything played by the holy trinity of Babbitt, Cogbill or Dunn
- Gigs and Ensembles:
- currently looking, but almost frustrated enough to give up..... I want to find a blues band that remembers its all about the perfect 2+1/2 minute song, not long, loud solos. everyone seems to have forgotten that the old blues masters were trying to write/record hit singles (yes, the pop music of their day), not create background music for guitar solos.
- Previously Owned Gear:
-
Mesa Boogie 400 (not +) and two Road Ready 1-15 cabs
'70 Fender Jazz
'71 (?) Gibson EB-3
'77 Acoustic 120 head and 2-15 cab
'62 Bass VI (first owner in 1986! )
'57 Les Paul Special
'63 Firebird 1
'59 tweed Champ
Hagstrom 335 copy
several blonde bassman head/cabs, a dead perfect blonde tremolux head/cab and 1/2 dozen plexi Marshalls that helped pay the bills when I took a year off
- G.A.S. List:
-
- 2 more Aggie DB112nt cabs
- to build either Greenboy or BFM cabs (lightweight 2-12 cab - all woof, no tweet)
- a super basic custom tube head, 4ea kt88s, w/ vol, bare minimum EQ (single tone control?) - sort of a beefed up Sunn 200 head; and it has to be hand wired in a first world country. (i realize that it won't be cheap) if that doesn't work out, just keep buying Bassman 135s until I can stack them to the ceiling. (w/ a pair of DB112s for each Bassman head)
- Influences and Teachers:
- w. dixon, p. chambers, d. dunn, j. meyers, d. myers, p. mccartney, the early james brown bass players, keith ferguson, pete farndon, billy rath, brad hallen and countless unknown blues, r&b, jazz and r'n'r bass players who tore it up in some dive club, never to be seen again
- Hobbies and Interests:
- fomenting socialist revolution
- Disclosures:
- someday I will find 4 or 5 other guys who want to play the blues the way it was played before it became all about guitar heroics
