    Hello everyone,

I need your help, I've searching here on TB, and over the web some info about Fender P basses MIJ Silver edition and nobody have a concrete answer, someone here have some info about it? A guy in my town sells one for $280 bucks, it's a good deal?

In some threads says something about these basses were made in the same factory where the squiers instruments were made in 90's, actually there's a lot of info about squiers MIJ silver edition...but nothing about Fenders....I saw the bass and the headstock it's legit, it's a fender not a squier

I've searching a P bass over the years and this could be a good chance...I think.

Actually I have a fender Precision special (PJ pickups configuration) great bass, but I'm afraid it's not a 100% P bass sound...the pickups are lace sensors.

  2. Assuming it's in good playable condition, $280 is a very good deal on any MIJ Fender.

  3. Check the headstock front/back again. Some basses say Fender, and then have a small Squier Series logo on the tip or back of the headstock. These are SQUIER basses, not Fender. Not to say that the quality's not there, but the cost on a Squier is much much lower.\

From what I can gather on these from searches is some of them were labelled Fender but are Squiers. Made in the same plant, with different decal.

So I assume a MIJ fender it's a good bass? better than a MIM? Or the MIA Special? (i think the special are the cheapest model MIA, right?

Are you talking about Squier series Fenders? If so, nope, they're real Fenders... I've only heard of those coming out MIK and MIM, not MIJ, could be wrong on that though.

I've got to say that looks remarkably like a Squier Silver Series, right down to the very tight radius on the headstock by the E tuner, and what looks like a single ply pickguard.

I'd guess there are two possible options: 1) Someone has changed the decal, or 2) Fender Japan were producing them for the domestic market branded as Fender.

Personally I think the second option is more likely, but it is just a guess.

Yes, it's a single ply pickguard...and definitely the decal is the original, not was changed, so I supposed is something like you say and what I read in some other pages, Seems Fender Japan produced this Fender silver series before switch the production to a Squier basses.....do you think it's a good opportunity, or I continue searching another P bass. It's not really a necessity at all, I have My fender Pbass plus, and my ricken....but as I said, I'm not totally convinced my P bass plus has the real puch of a P bass

I don't know if the truss rod adjustment at the headstock is consistent with MIJ Fenders or Squiers. Maybe some of the later(90's) Squiers have that adjustment set-up.

... And just for fun...always interesting to see Jazz covers on a P-bass! Wow!

wow! I didn't realize about the jazz cover until now! bad update! i think the neck pickup's cover is from a P bass but the bridge cover... lol, it's so funny...

i'll play it and then decide if could be a good purchase or not...

Hi! I have Fender Jazz Bass MIJ "silver series" too. It's 91-92 bass. I've got it in 1996 when I was 9. I'm still used it now.

  14. No. Google the Squier/Fender Silver Series.
There are threads on other boards ALL about them.

my 84 silver series squier jazz has the truss rod adjustment at the heel and it has the silver squier logo with a smaller fender logo to the right, i does not have silver series written on the headstock nor the serial number, the serial number is on the neck plate, the bridge is not threaded, it also has normal size tuners and not large or reverse style ones
